The houses

Ten houses, chosen slowly.

We would rather carry fewer yarns and stand behind every one. Ten houses supply this shelf — from a Norwegian mill spinning since 1888 to a mohair farm in Denmark — and each one earned its place beside the others.

01 Pure cashmere, spun in Biella

Cardiff Cashmere

A family company from Biella, the heart of Italy's wool country, that has worked one fibre only since the 1980s: cashmere from Mongolia, finer than 16.5 microns, carded, spun and dyed in Italy. Classic comes in more than a hundred colours; Prime is brushed with silk.

05 Bamboo blends, from Denmark

Go Handmade

A Danish house that develops its own yarns and designs its own patterns. We carry its Tencel Bamboo — 60% bamboo, 40% Tencel — in two weights: a silky, cool yarn with a soft sheen and a long drape, made for summer tops, fine crochet and baby clothes.

06 Norwegian wool, since 1888

Sandnes Garn

One of the oldest mills still running in Norway. Sandnes washes, cards, spins and dyes its yarn under one roof — Norwegian wool for Peer Gynt and Fritidsgarn, and the soft blends knitters know from PetiteKnit patterns: Tynn Silk Mohair, Double Sunday, Alpakka Silke.

07 Kid mohair, from North Jutland

Mohair by Canard

It began with a farm: in 1992, Annette and Ulrich von Broich settled in North Jutland with a flock of Angora goats. The family brand that grew from it still lives for kid mohair — Brushed Lace with mulberry silk, Single and Double Kid Mohair with merino — light as air, and dyed to OEKO-TEX standards.

08 Colourful yarns, from Barcelona

Katia

A family story that began in 1950, when Ramon Castelló founded a spinning mill near Barcelona, inspired by Pepita Vila's wool shop. Three generations on, Katia is known far beyond Spain for colour and invention — cotton-merino, silky lace, mohair blends — with a growing share of recycled and certified fibres.

09 Natural fibres, straight from the farm

Pascuali

Paul Pascuali spent his childhood in Argentina. Back in Germany, he first sold hand-woven Argentine ponchos, then founded his own yarn house near Cologne in 2008. Pascuali buys directly from small farms, without middlemen — alpaca, cashmere, merino, GOTS organic cotton — and ships its yarns free of plastic.

10 Danish design, Italian mills

Gepard

Sus Gepard founded the house in Denmark in 1989, with a Scandinavian eye for colour and line. The yarns themselves are spun and dyed by small, family-run mills in Italy — kid mohair and silk, cashmere, pure wool — and every one of them is ethically produced and mulesing-free.
